“God not only orders our steps, He orders our stops." These are words once spoken by George Muller, a former evangelist known for his powerful and consistent prayer life. I recently discovered Muller as I’ve been seeking to strengthen my prayer life with God, and became inspired by the life he lived. An owner of 5 orphanages with 10,000 orphans, he relied solely on faith and prayer to provide for their needs. He believed God answered over 50,000 of his prayers, and kept a record to strengthen the faith of other believers.
I admire his persistence to seek and hear from God. I’ve struggled with feeling like a bother, not having the right words to say, and asking for the wrong thing altogether. The more I study scripture, the more I begin to understand that my thoughts are simply not true. He tells us to continually pray, and he will give me the desires of my heart as I delight in Him.
1 Thessalonians 5:17: pray without ceasing
Phillipians 4:6: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Psalm 37:4 Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Jeremiah 29:12: Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
Like Muller, I’ve decided to record my prayers and their answers to build the faith of others, and to remember his faithfulness during the wilderness seasons. I created a template to help me organize my thoughts, and to make this practice feel easier. There are sections to type down prayer requests from other, prayers for yourself, and prayers you have for others like family, friends, and even strangers you may encounter during your day. I hope these templates encourage you to record your prayers for the first time or to renew your desire to pray if, like me, you’ve been in a dry season.
